A Place to Call Home

There's no doubt that Dunedin is filled with world-class art, fashion and eateries and don’t forget the beautiful Edinburgh-inspired architecture (Dunedin is Gaelic for Edinburgh, after all.) Its vibrant student population makes the Octagon a fun and eclectic place to be. Regardless of your interests, you’ll find plenty to do in this charming city that truly knows itself. Don’t be put off by the cold, bundle up and get ready to explore.

Why I call Dunedin home?

Dunedin is home for me for many reasons; and the first one is because it is where my heart feels connected.

I decided to look up the meaning of &quote “home is where the heart is “ " to see if it

was the same feeling I connect with.

The phrase that I found means; that no matter who you are with or where you are in the world, your family and home always have the deepest affection and emotional pull. It is the place where you have a foundation of love, warmth, feel secure and have happy memories, and this is how I feel about my home city “Dunedin”.

Oliver Wendell describes home as; “the one place in all this world where hearts are sure of each other; it is the place of confidence” And this pretty much sum’s up why myself and many refer back to our town even with the Big OE’s etc Dunedin will always be home.

There are many reasons why I love Dunedin and the meaning of the word “home”

becomes more relevant when you have to move away by default like I did. Over a year ago I

left my beautiful city of Dunedin; a place I am proud to call home. I am often asked when

meeting other people “what is it that you miss about home (Dunedin). I am always quick

with my reply as to why I love and miss Dunedin. I speak with a passionate heart and voice

as I describe Dunedin, “it’s because it’s a city that doesn’t feel like a city; it’s a place where

we have beautiful wild beaches and harbour, landscapes of remote hills and mountains

which can be seen from most parts of the city that you might be in. it’s down to earth people

and it only take 10 to 15 minutes to get from A to B. And it’s where my parents and closest

friend live.

Because I miss Dunedin, the business “Designs by Default” was established

because of the serve homesickness for my home city.
